Local medical student and former RBAI hockey player William Hayhurst returned from Manchester University on Friday to launch his Sideline Concussion campaign in Belfast. Aimed at raising awareness about concussion amongst young athletes, the Sideline Concussion campaign has received overwhelming support from medical figures and organisations including leading Belfast-based paediatric neurologist, Dr Deirdre Peake; former Ireland and British Lion rugby star Dr David Irwin; Headway – the brain injury charity and Paradox Omega Sport.
Student athletes and staff from RBAI, St. Mary’s, St. Genevieve’s and Victoria College also attended the official launch along with athletes from Cliftonville Football Club, Cliftonville Ladies, Linfield Football Club, Northern Ireland Women’s League, and the Belfast Giants.
