Lloyd Praises Giants Fans Ahead Of CSKA Game
Stena Line Belfast Giants Forward Darryl Lloyd has praised the travelling contingent of Giants fans ahead of Saturday afternoon’s Continental Cup clash with CSKA Sofia. The Giants opened the tournament on Friday with a 4-1 win over Tilburg, cheered on by hundreds of Giants fans and the team will be determined to give their fans a second win in-a-row.

“We’re playing two really good teams in the next two games. We need to get back to our systems today and play like a team again so we can get this tournament going,” said Lloyd after the Giants failed to take full advantage of Friday’s game, leading 4-0 going into the final period, only for the game to end 4-1.

This weekend’s tournament sees Lloyd and his teammates go one one step further than in Landshut two years ago, when the Giants came agonisingly close to advancing to the semi-final stage – a memory that still motivates this current team,

“We have a lot of returning guys who played in that tournament when we fell one game short. We want to every game this weekend and bring it up to the next tournament in Italy.”

And as for the fans – they cheered on the team throughout the entire game yesterday as they watched on during the 4-1 Giants win, “They were the loudest fans in the rink last night, pretty sure they will be today and tomorrow. Its good to have them on your side and hearing them all game is great motivation.”

Face-Off on Saturday afternoon is 4pm local time and 3pm Belfast time and the game will be shown LIVE on the screens in Laverys Bar, Belfast!
