Shoppers braved the rain on Saturday 12th February to ‘love local’ and show their support for local independent artisans during Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council’s Valentine’s Market held in Castle Gardens, Lisburn.
Over 1,500 shoppers poured into the park to partake in Valentine’s arts and crafts, enjoy unique live entertainment, browse the wide selection of artisan food and craft stalls. They even enjoyed lunch on the go from one of the many vendors serving-up street food eats.
Commenting on the wide variety on display at the unique Valentine’s Market Alderman Amanda Grehan, Development Committee Chair, said: “We were delighted by the diverse offering displayed by traders from within the council area and well-known local traders from beyond it. Shoppers with a sweet tooth had a wide range of decadent treats to tempt their tastebuds, ranging from French-inspired bakes from Lisburn’s own Blixt Bakery to gorgeous cupcakes from Rosie McNeill Cakes. The Daily Apron served up a wide range of baked goodies, from loaves of artisan bread to scrumptious sausage rolls and gorgeous cakes. A unique addition to the line-up came from local teenage farmer Nicholas Dennison from Rock Road Farm who proudly showcased his rare-breed pork including bacon, pork shoulder and chops.
“For those seeking a lunch on the go, the market did not disappoint. Urban Street Grub’s loaded nachos and topped hot dogs were a hit, whilst The Rovin Stove’s signature menu served from their iconic Airstream trailer offered a real talking point to the market. RetRo’s Grilled Cheese brought the necessary ‘cheese factor’ to the Valentine’s Market whilst The Curious Farmer shared his new loaded baked potatoes using produce from his own farm.
“Last minute Valentine’s shoppers also took advantage of the wealth of thoughtful gifting options including hand-poured candles from Ellie Mac Candles, colourful hairbands from Lisa’s Buttons & Bows, and bold handmade jewellery from Pink Pepper Designs.”
Following a successful Christmas season marked by markets in Dundonald, Carryduff and Royal Hillsborough, the Lisburn Valentine’s Market offered local shoppers the opportunity to continue to support artisan traders into the New Year. It was an added attraction for shoppers to Lisburn City Centre on a cold and showery Saturday in February.
