Jump into Christmas for Mental Health: AWARE NI Santa Abseil Returns!

AWARE NI is thrilled to announce the return of its popular Santa Abseil on Sunday, 24 November 2024, at Belfast’s iconic Europa Hotel. Participants are invited to kick off the festive season by abseiling down this city centre landmark while raising crucial funds to support individuals living with depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder.

In the true spirit of Christmas, participants are encouraged to don Santa suits for this exhilarating experience. With approximately 1 in 5 people in Northern Ireland experiencing mental health issues, there is a critical need for support services. To help address this, each participant is asked to raise a minimum of £100 in sponsorship. This is a unique opportunity to enjoy the thrill of abseiling while directly supporting AWARE NI’s vital mental health services.

AWARE NI operates a network of essential support groups across the country that provide safe spaces for individuals to share their experiences and connect with others facing similar challenges. These groups are currently underfunded, and every penny raised from the Santa Abseil will help ensure these services remain operational, allowing individuals to access the support they need. Additionally, funds will go towards expanding services, offering resources such as educational workshops and mental health awareness programmes in schools and workplaces.

Elley, a service user from Co. Down who has been attending a local AWARE NI support group for several years, shares her experience: “It’s hard to describe just how uplifting my time with AWARE NI has been. Each meeting brings laughter and connection, helping me feel understood and accepted. I know I’m not alone, and seeing others improve is truly inspirational. I’m so grateful for the ‘magic’ of AWARE NI.”

Lesley Wright, Community and Events Fundraising Officer at AWARE NI, expressed her enthusiasm for the event: “This Santa Abseil is a festive celebration that supports our crucial support groups for those affected by mental health issues. We rely on public fundraising to help continue running these groups, and every penny raised helps us provide essential services across Northern Ireland. We can’t wait to see the streets filled with Santa suits making a real difference!”

AWARE NI invites everyone—adventure seekers, Christmas enthusiasts, and mental health advocates—to participate in this unforgettable event. No prior abseiling experience is necessary, as full safety training will be provided on the day.
