If you’ve been anywhere near a TV screen over the past couple of years, chances are you’ve seen Bangor-born magician and Blue Peter presenter Joel Mawhinney — or Joel M as most know him. Now, he’s bringing his latest live show, Your Friendly Neighbourhood Magician, to Belfast for one night only.
Taking place at the MAC on Friday 26 September, this is Joel’s biggest Belfast show yet — and tickets are already flying. His Bangor hometown dates sold out fast, but lucky for Belfast audiences, new seats have just been released for the MAC.
A Show for Everyone
Joel describes the performance as super fun, family-friendly and fully interactive. “Kids can come, grandparents can come — it’s for everyone,” he says. Expect 90 minutes of brand-new material, packed with comedy, surprises and a whole lot of audience involvement.
“This is the show I’ve always wanted to bring home,” Joel adds. “When I was younger, I worked backstage at the MAC for another magician and promised myself that one day I’d be on that stage. So this feels like a full-circle moment.”
From Bangor to Blue Peter
Joel’s career has been something of a whirlwind. From performing tricks as a child in Bangor to presenting one of the UK’s most iconic children’s TV shows, his rise has been fast — and he admits he’s as surprised as anyone.
Fans of Blue Peter will remember his headline-grabbing stunts, from sporting a beard of bees (yes, really — only one sting!) to attempting the Royal Marine selection course with barely any training.
Through it all, Joel credits his family for keeping him grounded. “I’m just grateful for every opportunity,” he says.
Why You Shouldn’t Miss It
Not only is this a chance to see Joel’s best and newest material, but with his filming schedule packed for the next few years, he admits it’ll be a while before he’s back on stage in Belfast.
So if you’re looking for a night of laughter, amazement and a little bit of magic, grab your tickets now.
