Doris to Captain Ireland as Championship Gets Underway
Ireland will be led by Caelan Doris, who captains the side as they begin their 2026 Six Nations journey away from home in one of world rugby’s most intimidating venues.
The back three sees Jamie Osborne, Tommy O’Brien and Stockdale selected to start, while McCloskey lines up in midfield alongside Garry Ringrose, offering a powerful and experienced centre partnership.
At half-back, Jamison Gibson-Park and Sam Prendergast are entrusted with steering Ireland around the pitch against a formidable French side.
Balanced Pack and Strong Bench Options
Up front, Ireland field Jeremy Loughman, Dan Sheehan and Thomas Clarkson in the front row, with Joe McCarthy and Tadhg Beirne forming a dynamic second-row pairing.
The back row combines work rate, physicality and leadership, with Cian Prendergast, Josh van der Flier and captain Doris completing the pack.
Farrell has also named a powerful bench, including forward reinforcements Rónan Kelleher, Michael Milne, Finlay Bealham, James Ryan, Jack Conan and Nick Timoney, while Craig Casey and Jack Crowley provide backline cover.
Farrell: Squad Prepared for a Major Test in Paris
Speaking ahead of the opening round, Farrell praised the squad’s preparation following a recent training camp in Portugal.
He highlighted the challenge of playing France in Paris, describing the Stade de France as a venue with a unique atmosphere, while also acknowledging the impact of Ireland’s travelling support.
With the Six Nations renowned for its intensity and drama, Farrell believes the occasion will bring out the best in his players as Ireland look to make a strong start to their campaign.
