We are just a few weeks away from the Grand National. The dust may have just settled on the Cheltenham Festival, but all roads now lead to Aintree.
Indeed, the Grand National is one of the most eagerly anticipated jump races of the campaign.
However, in many ways, it is a bit of a lottery as the course is littered with tough hurdles. And out of the usual 40 runners and riders, more times than not, it is quite lucky if more than half of them complete the full circuit unscathed.
The horses are generally the prize draw for visitors and TV viewers alike, but it is now time to shine a light on Aintree’s most successful trainers.
Over the years, there have been many a Grand National winner that have been trained by Irish trainers. Tiger Roll, for example, which enjoyed back-to-back wins in 2018 and 2019, was trained by Gordon Elliott, who is one of the most pre-eminent trainers of his time.
Elliott picked up a few winners at Cheltenham, and he will be hoping for success with Run Wild Fred at the Grand National.
Similarly, Willie Mullins – who had a fabulous Cheltenham meet – will be targeting success with Ontheropes and Franco De Port, who are currently attracting enticing looking prices from leading bookmakers.
Indeed, many of the top bookmakers will carry ante-post odds for the Grand National, as it is one of the most lucrative and thrilling jump events of the horse racing calendar.
For example, at bet365, you will be able to locate outright markets for the Grand National, but the site has its finger on the pulse when it comes to horse racing and you can make use of the bet365 signup offer if you are a new player.
Nevertheless, when it comes to horse racing, players will be able to live stream all of the biggest races from the UK and Ireland. But what will be the nationality of the winning Grand National horse, and their trainers?
Inevitably, there will be plenty of sweepstakes up and down the country as Grand National mania sets in, but as we know, picking a winner is always notoriously difficult.
Ireland has always been renowned for producing top jockeys, but success has also come very easily to the trainers.
We will of course pay close attention to Mullins et al, and maybe there could well be a few drinks toasts come April!
