In an Elite league League match at the SSE Arena, the Sheffield Steelers emerged victorious with a solid 4-0 win over the Stena Line Belfast Giants on Sunday. Despite the Giants’ efforts, they were unable to penetrate the defensive prowess of Steelers’ goalie Matt Greenfield.
Game Highlights:
The game began with an early powerplay for the Steelers after Mark Cooper’s holding penalty, but the Giants successfully defended it. Notable moments included Robert Dowd’s missed opportunity and Matt McLeod’s near goal, hitting the post. However, the Steelers quickly gained momentum with Mark Simpson scoring the opening goal with a swift wraparound move at 7:06 (0-1). Shortly after, at 10:07, Cole Shudra extended the lead by slipping the puck past Giants’ goalie Tyler Beskorowany (0-2).
Despite Beskorowany’s impressive saves, Mikko Juusola managed to increase the lead with a precise finish at 13:13 (0-3). The Giants had a powerplay opportunity but failed to capitalize, leaving the first period at 0-3.
In the second period, the Giants faced more challenges, including a brief 5-on-3 disadvantage and unsuccessful powerplay attempts. McLeod again came close to scoring, but Greenfield’s defense was unyielding. The Steelers capitalized on another powerplay opportunity, maintaining their lead.

Final Period and Steelers’ Victory:
The final period saw the Giants striving for a comeback, with MacIntyre attempting to score, only to be thwarted by Greenfield. Despite another powerplay chance for the Giants, the Steelers’ defense remained impenetrable. Juusola secured the victory with his second goal at 49:52, assisted by Brett Neumann (0-4). The Steelers continued to pressure, but Beskorowany’s saves prevented further goals.
