Belfast Giants 3–1 Glasgow Clan | SSE Arena, Saturday 27 September 2025
The Belfast Giants kicked off their Challenge Cup campaign with a well-earned 3–1 win over the Glasgow Clan at the SSE Arena.
Opening Exchanges
The first period saw both sides push hard for an opener. Jackson Whistle was sharp between the pipes, denying Hugo Roy and Deven Sideroff, while Jake Gaudet forced a one-on-one save at the other end. Belfast came closest when JJ Piccinich rattled the bar from close range, but the frame ended scoreless despite chances at both ends.
Giants Take Control
Glasgow broke the deadlock just 41 seconds into the second period as Tristin Langan smashed in a powerplay strike from Brayden Burke’s feed. The Clan’s joy was short-lived. Scott Conway levelled the score with a composed finish on the break, before Marcus Eriksson lashed home a high shot on the powerplay to put the Giants ahead. From that point, Adam Keefe’s men were firmly on the front foot.
Closing It Out
The final period was a test of resolve. The Giants survived successive penalties with Whistle producing a crucial breakaway stop to deny Langan a second. With the Clan chasing the game late on, Belfast’s captain David Goodwin rolled the puck into the empty net to seal a 3–1 victory and two Challenge Cup points.
What’s Next
These two sides meet again tomorrow (Sunday 28 September) in Braehead, before Belfast return home on Sunday 12 October to face the Fife Flyers.
