Belfast Giants 3 – 0 Glasgow Clan | Challenge Cup | SSE Arena Belfast

The Belfast Giants brought the heat of Hawaii to the cold Belfast night — and the Glasgow Clan couldn’t handle it. On a night filled with floral shirts, beach vibes, and big hits, Adam Keefe’s men delivered a dominant 3-0 shutout to stay top of their Challenge Cup group.

🏒 First Period: Cautious Beginnings

It took a while for this one to sizzle, with both sides testing the waters early. Ryan Smith went close after just five minutes, followed by slick stick work from Scott Conway and JJ Piccinich — both denied by Clan goaltender Sami Aittokallio.

The Giants’ captain David Goodwin came inches from breaking the deadlock when his shot slipped under Aittokallio’s pads, only to be cleared at the last moment. The Clan failed to take advantage of a powerplay, and Jackson Whistle stayed sharp at the other end, keeping the scoreboard blank after 20 minutes.

⚡ Second Period: Giants Erupt

After hitting the post early in the period, JJ Piccinich finally broke through — and once he did, the floodgates opened.

With Ryan McKay in the box for holding the stick, Piccinich rifled home a beauty from the right hash marks to give Belfast the lead (1-0). Moments later, Ryan Smith unleashed a rocket from the opposite flank to double the advantage (2-0).

The SSE Arena roared as the Giants found their rhythm. Even when short-handed, the hosts looked dangerous — Piccinich and Reid Irwin both testing the Clan keeper on breakaways.

Darien Kielb hit the post for the visitors, but the Giants finished the period firmly in control.

🧱 Third Period: Whistle Stands Tall

The Clan pushed hard in the final frame, but Jackson Whistle was in unbeatable form. Tristin Langan’s wraparound effort rattled the post, while Whistle produced a pair of crucial saves to deny Miikhali Teppo and Rylan Schwartz.

As the clock wound down, the Clan pulled their goalie for a late push — but Ryan Smith sealed the win with a cool empty-net finish (3-0). The SSE Arena crowd erupted once more, celebrating a Hawaiian Night shutout special.

🏆 What’s Next

The Giants hit the road next, travelling to Guildford to face the Flames on Sunday (Oct 26). Then it’s back home on Wednesday, Oct 29, as the Cardiff Devils come to town for another Elite League showdown.
