Lukas Bohunicky and Dennis Rix gave the Edinburgh Capitals a 2-0 in Murrayfield after only 7:41 after a heavyweight battle at centre-ice when Kevin Westgarth and Riley Emmerson dropped the gloves. However the Giants responded well with Ray Sawdad firing past Tomas Hiadlovsky in the Edinburgh net less than 2 minutes later after great work by Evan Cheverie down low.

Mike Kompon equalised early in the second period, his 20th goal of the season, with assists to line mates Lloyd and Adam Keefe. The goalscorer then turned provider with Kompon assisting on Calvin Elfring’s 25:57 goal – which provided a few minutes of confusion in Edinburgh with Referee Tom Pering not seeing the puck cross the line and allowed play to continue, then the Capitals skated up the other end of the ice and put the puck in the back of the Giants net..only for the linesmen to step in and correctly bring the play back and award the Giants the goal and lead 3-2. At 34:42, the Giants brought some daylight between them and their hosts, with Adam Keefe scoring after following up on a Darryl Lloyd rebound, to give the Giants a 4-2 lead at the end of the second period.

Greg Collins cut the Giants lead to 4-3 early in the third period, however Mark McCutcheon and then Darryl Lloyd netted for the Giants to complete the win.

Final Score:
Edinburgh Capitals 3-6 Stena Line Belfast Giants

Man of the Match: #17 Mike Kompon
