Many of Northern Ireland’s hottest jazz musicians will be involved in Belfast’s answer to ‘Jazz on a Summer’s Day’ at the Black Box on July 7.
‘Jazz Day: a celebration of Northern Ireland jazz’, organised by trumpet virtuoso Linley Hamilton, is a veritable feast of hot music from 3.30pm to 11pm, with a fantastic finale by an all-star band led by US trumpeter and academic, Dr Scott Cowan.

Linley Hamilton said his idea was to provide a showcase for a style of music that has really been taking off in Northern Ireland over the past year.

“This is all about welcoming fans and musicians together to share each other’s love of the music and to grow a product that has been brewing for almost a year, with larger crowds and increasingly high standards of playing.
“Seven and a half hours of top class jazz this is a not-to-be-missed event for everyone who loves this great music,” he added.
The day kicks off with one of Northern Ireland’s ‘young guns’, Michael Barkley and his organ quartet which also features fellow former Ulster Youth Jazz Orchestra member, Scott Flanigan on Hammond Organ.
Other bands include the Ronnie Greer Band, the Dana Masters Band, featuring Linley Hamilton on trumpet, Meilana Gillard on saxophone and Steve Davis on drums.
Guitarist Emmanuel Amaforte will lead an exciting outfit with some of Northern Ireland’s up and coming young musicians displaying the talent of the next generation.
Scott Cowan, who has performed with the likes of Billy Hart, Kenny Wheele, Lou Donaldson and Fred Hersch, will bring the evening to a superb climax with his band featuring Meilana Gillard, Steve Davis, Meilana Gillard and Nicky Scott.
With tickets just £10 for seven and a half hours of fantastic music, it is a must for all jazz fans. For more information or to book tickets, visit: http://www.blackboxbelfast.com/ai1ec_event/jazz-jamboree/?instance_id=872
