Golden Cow kick starts summer with launch of family days out initiative
Meal time is family time, according to leading butter brand Golden Cow. This old adage certainly rings true in Northern Ireland with 7 in 10 people claiming their favourite way to spend time with their loved ones during the summer months, is over some quality food.
The research comes hot on the heels of National Picnic Week which was last week and was commissioned as part of Golden Cow’s ‘Share the Love’ campaign to help launch its latest initiative, ‘Golden Days Out’, which aims to provide families with the ideal opportunity to get out and about together this summer and enjoy great family moments whether that’s on a picnic, at a barbecue or simple alfresco dining in the summer sun.
And it seems that picnics reign supreme in Northern Ireland with 61% of people polled opting for the simple pleasures of buttery sandwiches and snacks rather than takeaways or restaurant food on a family day out. Beach or backyard barbeques came a close second with 3 in 10 people revealing it was the summer food they most loved to share when spending quality time with family.
Sunshine weather is never guaranteed in Northern Ireland, but the people surveyed were not put off by the thought of summer showers with 65% endeavouring to enjoy a family day out come ‘rain, hail or shine’ rather than weathering the ‘storm’ at home.
However, the majority of people surveyed felt that during the summer in particular, they don’t get to spend as much time with family as they would like. 70% blamed work commitments; while 13% said too many loved ones live too far away to visit on a more regular basis.
Marketing Manager for Golden Cow, Bronagh Clarke, said: “Summertime is when you can pack up the family, the picnic or the portable BBQ and take off on an adventure that you’ll be talking about for years, so it’s a shame that a high percentage of people polled feel they don’t get to do this enough during their favourite time of year.
“Golden Cow has a rich heritage in Northern Ireland and has been enjoyed by families for generations so this summer we want to encourage people to make time to spend quality moments with the family.
“So, to celebrate the start of summer we are giving local families the opportunity to win a Golden Day Out to the stunning National Trust Park at Castle Ward. Pete Snodden, radio personality: “A biscuit paired with a knob of Golden Cow butter is a taste sensation that takes me right back to my childhood. Those magical times when soggy sandwiches and biscuit snacks with a generous spread of creamy butter were served up from the boot of the car.”
Sean Hegarty, Comedian: “A rainy, Sunday drive in the car – nothing quite like it. Whether we wanted to go or not, we were crammed in. I Spy in the car and a stop off which usually entailed a crisp sandwich on the bonnet, a game of tag and a view to die for.”
Eve Brannon, Fashionista and local Stylist: “Eating breakfast with my sister in our pyjamas on lazy summer days is a golden memory for me. Mum would be prepare our favourite breakfast of boiled eggs and toast soldiers smothered in Golden Cow – it was our little summer treat. When we were finished eating we would turn the egg shell upside-down in the egg cup and draw smiley faces on them – I still have some of those little shells to this day.”
