Northern Ireland’s Top Dogs in Running to Win Dream Holiday to Scotland

Five of Northern Ireland’s most heroic and hardworking dogs have been selected as finalists in a competition to find Northern Ireland’s Most Deserving Dog to win a dream holiday in Scotland, courtesy of VisitScotland and Stena Line.

The competition, which launched on 26th August to coincide with National Dogs Day, saw people across Northern Ireland nominating put-upon pups, heroic hounds and dogs that have simply had a ruff year in the hope of winning the dream prize.

Marc Casey, Stena Line Marketing Manager (Irish Sea North), said: “Since its launch, we have been delighted with how the public has been engaging with the competition through the website and on social media using the hashtag #DoggyBreaks. It was great to see such a spread of inspiring stories from heroic and hardworking dogs right across Northern Ireland.”

“Selecting just five dogs from a pool of almost 40 strong entries to go through to the final round was incredibly tough. Each of the finalists are worthy winners in their own right with incredible stories – from guide dogs and assistance dogs, to therapy pups and dogs who have simply had a ruff year.”

“We would encourage the public to log on to the website, vote for their favourite dog and help them get one step closer to winning a dream doggy ‘pawliday’ to Scotland. At Stena Line, we believe dogs deserve a holiday too and we are proud to welcome pets on board our sailings from Northern Ireland. With our on-board pet facilities, including dog lodges and an exercise area, owners and families can enjoy a stress-free start to a dream dog-friendly holiday in Scotland.”

Helen Campbell, VisitScotland said: “When it comes to booking a holiday, it seems our pets are often more important than our partners. VisitScotland received a staggering 95% more

enquiries into ‘pet-friendly accommodation’ than ‘romantic accommodation’ in the last year, showing just how important our pets are to us when choosing the perfect holiday destination.”

The dream doggy prize includes return ferry travel for a family of four and their dog and car on-board Stena Line including an exclusive VIP on-board experience and the chance to enjoy Brilliant Moments in Scotland with three night’s accommodation at the Trigony House Hotel, Dumfries and Galloway. All finalists also received a luxury dog goody bag to the value of £50.

The winning dog will be selected by a public vote through the Stena Line website which closes on Thursday 8th October 2015.

Northern Ireland dog lovers are encouraged to join the campaign on social media via @StenaLineIE using the hashtag #DoggyBreaks
