FANS CAN STILL VISIT GAME OF THRONES® EXHIBITION IN BELFAST
MORE than 7,000 fans from all over the world have already visited the HBO Game of Thrones Exhibition in Belfast and the Northern Ireland Tourist Board (NITB) is encouraging anyone interested to come down to Titanic Belfast as there is still capacity to view the exhibition.
Running until June 17, the exhibition is on its last stop of a five city tour and has seen fans from Australia, the Philippines and the USA come to Belfast to catch a glimpse of the original artefacts on display such as props and costumes.
All of the pre-sale tickets for the exhibit have been snapped up but NITB, in partnership with Northern Ireland Screen and Titanic Belfast, have said there is still the chance for fans to come down on the day and join a short queue to visit the free exhibition.
“We have been overwhelmed by the interest in the Game of Thrones exhibition and have had really positive feedback from fans that have come down to Titanic Belfast to visit it,” said NITB’s Culture and Arts Officer Helen Carey.
“There is still plenty of opportunity for fans who didn’t manage to get their hands on a ticket to come on any day they wish and join a short queue to gain entrance into the exhibition,” continued Helen.
“We would really encourage anyone who was disappointed to not get an allocated ticket to take this chance to view the exhibition as Belfast is the last stop of its five city tour,” she added.
HBO’s Game of Thrones is one of the most popular and successful fantasy TV series ever made and around 20,000 fans are expected to visit the exhibition while it is in Belfast.
Ciaran Lahart from Tipperary was one of the first people to view the exhibition on the opening day;
“My friends and I all loved the Game of Thrones Exhibition and we were all really surprised at just how many props were on display. There was a lot of detail and I definitely found out a few things that I didn’t know beforehand. I can honestly say the exhibition was better than I was expecting,” said Ciaran.
Rebecca Shields travelled from Manchester to visit the exhibition;
“Both my husband and I really enjoyed the Game of Thrones exhibition. The great selection of props, costumes and detail put into the exhibition really brought Westeros to life within the Titanic Centre. The Iron Throne itself was my personal favourite exhibit as it was so much fun to have my photo taken sat there!” said Rebecca.
Mark Weir from Newry said the Game of Thrones exhibition well and truly lived up to expectations;
“The Game of Thrones exhibition was excellent viewing. These weren’t replicas or imitations; they were the real props from the show that we could view up close. Everything is presented perfectly and stacked with information that even, I as a huge fan of the series, learnt from,” said Mark.
The exhibition is designed to transport viewers into the breathtaking and enchanted world of Westeros, a fictional continent within the show, and will feature over 70 original artefacts including props and costumes as well as interactive elements. It will focus on key characters from five of the noble houses (Stark, Lannister, Targaryen, Baratheon and Greyjoy) and displays will include;
Costumes, props, armour and weapons – artisans, whose superb craftsmanship has provided authenticity to the medieval world of the show, worked closely with HBO to curate the exhibit with items including: an impressive costume display overseen by the show’s head costume designer Michele Clapton who dressed the mannequins to ensure accuracy in the presentation of the extraordinarily detailed garments, iconic artefacts such as model dragons, weaponry (King Joffrey’s crossbow, daggers and swords), armour (helmets, shields and full suits of armour worn by key characters in the show), crowns, jewellery, books and much more.
Backwater Bay Interactive Experience – fans will get an opportunity to participate in an exciting interactive experience that will place them amid the action of the epic battle of Backwater Bay from season 2.
Iron Throne – fit for any king or queen, fans will be able to take their photo on a precise replica of the iron throne from the series to post and share on social media sites.
The exhibition will also display an array of high end, official Game of Thrones merchandise from the HBO Shop®.
