Over 70 Santa Claus’ from as young as four years of age crossed the finishing line on completion of this year’s Santa Dash at Lough Moss Leisure Centre, Carryduff on Thursday 13th December.
Organised by Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council’s Sports Services Unit, the annual event provided an evening of family festive fun featuring a choice of magical glow lit trails of 1km, 3km or 5km. Prior to the ‘Dash’, families also enjoyed a special Christmas themed warm-up Zumba class as well as bouncy castles and refreshments for Santa’s younger helpers to help get everyone into the Christmas spirit.
Alderman Paul Porter, Chairman of the Council’s Leisure & Community Development Committee said, “In spite of the chilly weather and rain showers earlier in the day it was fabulous to see so many people, adults and children, taking time out of their busy schedules in the lead up to Christmas, to participate in this year’s Santa Dash.
“Once again, the event was a huge success and I congratulate Lough Moss Leisure Centre on hosting a fantastic evening. I hope that all those who participated this evening are encouraged to take part in other Sports Services Unit initiatives such as children’s activity programmes, Couch to 5Ks and the annual Half Marathon, 10K and Fun Run taking place across the Council area throughout the year as well as the regular local parkrun events.
Councillor Uel Mackin, Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council added, “I would like to express my gratitude to the Council’s Sports Development Unit for once again putting on an extremely fun filled family event, with participants from all age groups coming together to engage in physical activity. I am delighted that a portion of the proceeds from tonight’s event will be donated to my Mayoral Charity, Cancer Fund for Children.”
