As part of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)’s 200th Anniversary we’re holding a special FREE ‘EXPLORE ENGINEERING’ event in C.S. Lewis Square from 10am – 3pm on Friday 22 June 2018.
The event will give you an insight into how engineers have shaped the world around you with inspirational talks and demonstrations from project partners Farrans, ARUP, Jacobs, WDR & RT Taggarts and the Department for infrastructure.
As well as hearing from real engineers there will be a mini digger, a bridge building workshop, Sustrans bike workshop and giant CCG jigsaw.
Plus prizes kindly provided by the Odyssey Trust including 3 lego sets (architecture/ family themed) and 3 family passes to W5.
The Institution of Civil Engineers are Celebrating 200 years of civil engineering achievement with a series of landmark events to inform the general public that civil engineers transform their lives directly and encourage the next generation into the profession.
Connswater Community Greenway
Completed in April 2017 the Connswater Community Greenway project has created an attractive, safe and accessible cycle and walkway through an urban area of East Belfast connecting over 40,000 people with;
- 16km of continuous cycle and walkway for commuting and leisure
- 7 new bridge crossings over the Connswater, Knock and Loop Rivers
- Public realm works creating an event space for up to 2000 people
- New amenities including 2 new play parks and MUGA pitches
- £11m of added flood protection to 1,700 local properties
The project team faced multiple engineering challenges working along the 3 narrow river channels during construction. Hear about how Farrans Construction, ARUP, WDR & RT Taggarts worked as a team to overcome these constraints and contribute to buildability.
