Belfast based arts organisation, Beat Carnival will present a European Arts Education
Seminar in the city from Wednesday 28 – Friday 30 March 2019.

The series of events set to take place during this year’s Imagine Festival will include a two day seminar, a Youth Arts Action Workshop and a Brexit Sing-Song, now called the Never -Ending Brexit Sing Song, in the Oh Yeah Music Centre.

During the seminar programme delegates will be asked to share and examine arts access and participation and consider the ways that success of arts engagement is measured.

Speaking about the events, Beat Carnival Director David Boyd said: “How do we know our arts programmes give children & young people a great start in life and help people of all ages to thrive? Practitioners need to take time to reflect on our work, how we measure
success and use that evaluation to improve our practice.

I’m very pleased that we are hosting discussion on these questions with colleagues from France to Ukraine, in a Belfast Seminar, as part of a bigger Creative Europe programme of the EU.”

The seminars will include discussions from speakers such as Gerri Moriarty, Jo Egan, Katrina Flora, Cesar Fulgencio, Kim Jackson, Tom Magill and Jackie Redpath. Joby Fox will be Musician In Residence at the seminar.

Programme partner Trans Europe Halles said: “Arts participation methods in Belfast have been inspirational to cultural centres and projects in Europe. We have met Beat Carnival in our own places – now we are excited that Beat is welcoming the TEH Arts Education Platform in Belfast, to work on how our programmes improve quality of arts experience with citizens and communities.”

The Never-Ending Brexit Sing-Song event taking place in the Oh Yeah Music Centre on Thursday 29 March is set to be a social, song and music event for all, a Beat Carnival community celebration of our connections where people from diverse cultures share songs from their places and traditions. With seven bands playing through the evening, the event features performances from Joby Fox; pipers Ian Borrows and Tiarnan O Duinnchinn; Willie Drennan; and BEATnDRUM samba band.
