Desmarais Overtime Winner Seals Belfast Giants Win

Friday night at The SSE Arena, Belfast saw the Giants come from behind three times against the Cardiff Devils to take two points thanks to an overtime winning goal from James Desmarais. The win keeps the Giants level on points with the first placed Devils.

It was Jake Morissette that put the Devils in the lead early in the first period only for the Giants to pull the game back to 1-1 courtesy of a nice solo Brandon Benedict goal at 6.06 in the first period.

Joey Martin fired the visiting Devils to a 2-1 lead with just 34 seconds on the clock of the 2nd period and yet again the Giants equalised through Colin Shields at 17.17

With the teams tied 2-2 going into the 3rd period, Brent Walton regained the lead for the Cardiff Devils at 34.37. It was Michael Forney who finished nicely when one-on-one with Ben Bowns to tie things up at 3-3 after 37:17.

After a breathless 60 minutes at The SSE Arena, Belfast – nothing separated the teams and the game went to four-on-four overtime. It was James Desmarais who clinched the extra point for the Giants to send the crowd wild with only 18 seconds remaining on the clock as he fired home the overtime winner for the Giants.

Saturday night sees these two teams meet once again at The SSE Arena, face-off 7pm.
