If you’re partial to a good crisp sandwich, Belfast’s Simply Crispy opens on Monday in Bedford Street. It may have started out as a spoof, but Simply Crispy – the world’s first crisp sandwich cafe is officially opening.
This new eatery, offering both classic and contemporary crisp sandwiches, became a reality when satirical website The Ulster Fry published a tongue-in-cheek piece about a café that would sell crisp sandwiches.

Andrew McMenamin, owner of That Wee Cafe in Belfast, saying he wanted to make their spoof a reality.
Andrew explained: ‘When I read the article I immediately thought, we could make that joke into a reality, and got in touch. The lads at the Ulster Fry thought it would be fun, so from Monday we’re rebranding the café under the ‘Simply Crispy’.’
Step 1: Choose your bread (Plain Loaf, Nutty Krust or a Belfast Bap)
