A Belfast City Centre restaurant is celebrating winning a major industry accolade after beating off stiff competition across the island of Ireland.

Havana located in Bank Square in Belfast picked up the best newcomer in Ireland accolade at the Yes Chef Awards, bringing together some of the most notable restaurateurs recently for the awards ceremony at Montalo Estate in Co. Down.

The restaurant opened its doors in July 2013 by two friends Patrick McGowan and Patrick Magee employing fifteen full and part-time staff.

Located in the South West Quarter of Belfast, Bank Square is a focal point of redevelopment by the Department of Social Development drawing on the historic street pattern, important landmark buildings to create and enlivened area.

Patrick McGowan said, “It’s great to pick up the best newcomer accolade which further endorses the quality of offering at Havana of great local produce, fresh and simple. Havana is positioned perfectly for shoppers to relax off the beaten track at lunchtime as we’re in close proximity to Castlecourt Shopping Centre and Royal Avenue but also for evening dining”.

“We hope that with the focus of development in Bank Square the area, also home to Kelly’s Cellars, will be another thriving area in the city centre”.
