The Chewbacca Mask video has now been watched by over 135 million people worldwide


The video of a woman laughing uncontrollably after trying on a Chewbacca mask has broken all Facebook Live records after reaching an incredible 123 million views.

Candace Payne had just finished her shopping when she impulsively decided to treat herself to a silly present as part of her “birthday joy,” and reached out to her friends by broadcasting herself trying on her new toy – a Star Wars Chewbacca mask – through Facebook Live video streaming.

After trying on the mask, the mum-of-two is unable to contain her joy when she sees her reflection, shouting “I’m such a happy Chewbacca!”

Viewers found the situation just as hilarious as Candace, with one Facebook user commenting: “I’m not sure what I love more…the super cool amazing mask or the level of your joy!!!” while another wrote: “This is my favourite video I have EVER seen!

In just under a day, Candace Payne managed to go from a stay-at-home mum, sitting in her car, laughing her head off at a Chewbacca mask, to overnight viral sensation – the video quickly becoming the most watched Facebook Live video ever.

Over 135 million views later, the toy mask sold out everywhere, the Toy Shop she bought it from sending her family a tonne of Star Wars collectables.

However, come Monday evening, just five days after the video was originally posted, the ‘Chewbacca Mom’ hit a new peak, appearing alongside James Corden and The Force Awakens director JJ Abrams on The Late Late Show.
