Local children’s charity Cash for Kids has supported Rory McIlroy’s charitable Foundation, the Rory Foundation, with a grant of £3,579. The charity of Cool FM and Downtown Radio teamed up with The Rory Foundation to raise money during the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open in Portstewart, earlier this year. Cash for Kids developed a £3 text to donate competition across Downtown Radio and Cool FM and 100% of the funds went to the Rory Foundation. This contribution will go towards helping over 1,000 children connected to Sport Changes Life and the Harry Gregg Foundation.

Cash for Kids is the local childrens charity of Downtown Radio, Downtown Country and Cool FM, and raises money to support local disadvantaged children facing poverty, disability, illness or neglect. As well as supporting individual families and groups that apply for help, Cash for Kids also supports other local childrens charities making a difference to the lives of local children. Cash for Kids manager Stephanie Laverty said;

“We were delighted to be able to team up with the Rory Foundation and Dubai Duty Free Irish Open. By putting a package together giving listeners the chance to win an amazing prize, Cash for Kids were able to raise over £3000 which will help change the lives of local children across Northern Ireland through the Rory Foundation.”

The Rory Foundation based in Holywood, Co. Down, has helped children’s charities all over Ireland. Beneficiaries so far include Cancer Fund for Children, Mencap NI, Sport Changes Life, the Harry Gregg Foundation, Barretstown, the Jack & Jill Foundation and LauraLynn Children’s Hospice. They will host the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open for a fourth-year next year in Ballyliffin, Co. Donegal. Chief Executive of the Rory Foundation, Barry Funston said;

“Thank you to Cash for Kids for their very kind gesture. It will go a long way in helping children live better lives. It will greatly impact the lives of over 1,000 children connected to Sport Changes Life and the Harry Gregg Foundation. Thank you also to everyone for texting in. I’m delighted to accept the donation on behalf of the Rory Foundation.”
