A charity concert headlined by boyband JLS in aid of the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children has been cancelled.
The Pop in the Dock event was scheduled to take place on 2 August at the Titanic Slipway in the city, to coincide with the World Police and Fire Games.
Organisers informed the charity of their decision to cancel the event on Monday.
NICFC CEO, Gillian Creevy, said: “We are very disappointed this concert has been cancelled. We know everyone has been working very hard to support the work of the NI Cancer Fund for Children and I understand this decision was taken with extreme reluctance.
“I would like to thank each and every person who bought a ticket. We would also like to thank everyone who was working behind the scenes to help make this event happen and all media outlets – newspapers, television, radio, online – which helped us promote it.”
The charity concert was to be one of JLS’ last high profile gigs before they officially split next year.
Local acts were also scheduled to perform at the event, including Portadown band Microlip, Dublin’s Key West, Britain’s Got Talent finalist Jordan O’ Keefe and The Voice UK winner Andrea Begley.
It was hoped money raised from the show would go towards a new £3m therapeutic short break centre, which the NI Cancer Fund for Children is set to open next spring.
It is understood the Pop in the Park charity concert, also headlined by JLS, at Newry’s Pairc Esler on 1 August will go ahead as planned and tickets are still available.
Belfast Slipway tickets are transferrable for the Newry event and can also be fully refunded through Ticketmaster.
