Four of Northern Ireland’s up and coming comedians are set to delight local audiences with rip roaring laughter as they embark on the first leg of their hilarious ‘Black Taxi’ Comedy Tour.
The troupe, which includes Lurgan lad and support act at Patrick Kielty’s recent tour, Sean Hegarty; Paddy McDonnell from Belfast, Craigavon native and Glasgowberry regular, Phil McEwan and Cormac ‘Cookie’ O’Donnell from Cookstown, are together determined to show audiences they don’t need to fork out big money for well-known comedians in order to enjoy a great night of laughter.
The ‘Black Taxi’ comedy group was set up by Sean and Paddy (a black taxi driver by trade and the inspiration behind the name of the tour) who both had a mutual goal to travel the length and breadth of Northern Ireland wowing people with their stand-up comedy. The boys enlisted the help of Phil and Cormac who they met when gigging and The Black Taxi comedy tour was born.
Each member of the group has their own individual style, bringing something different to the table and ensuring there’s something to suit all sense of humours, which is why founding member Sean believes the group works.
“I think the reason we gel so well is because we are all so different. Paddy’s the oldest of the group and his insights into family life and tales from being a black taxi driver are hilarious. He’s just finished a successful stint MC’ing at the Feile Comedy Night in front of a 5,000 strong crowd.
“Phil’s got a very dry sense of humour but he also plays guitar and loves hip hop so he brings a bit of a musical element to the show – his skit is a real performance and the audience love him. Cormac’s just an eejit! He’s become a bit of a celebrity in Cookstown as he’s been doing skits in and around his home town for the past two years. He’s always very popular wherever he goes.
“I’ve just finished touring with Patrick Kielty which was a fantastic experience and I’m looking forward to getting back into the live gigging. It’s what I love to do. I’m more of a short stories and one liner kind of guy, so we really do offer something to suit all tastes. I’m confident people will like us and can guarantee a fun night out for all.”
The tour kicks off on Thursday 03 October in The Black Box in Belfast and promises to be a sellout event. From here, the guys will be performing in the Old Courthouse in Antrim, the Craigavon Civic Centre and the Strand in east Belfast.
