Cage The Elephant press shot (1)

Tennent’s Lager and MCD today (21st April) confirmed that high energy American rock and roll band Cage the Elephant will be joining the Tennent’s Vital line up at Boucher Road Playing Fields on Thursday 25th August.

Long celebrated as one of the most explosive live bands in the world, Cage the Elephant has toured extensively, selling out several headlining runs and has performed with The Black Keys, Foo Fighters, Muse and Queens of the Stone Age.

The band first hit music consciousness in 2008 when their explosive first album went gold and the single ‘Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked’ earned platinum. Their challenging and eclectic sound built them an eager fan base across Europe as well as America and they followed up on early success with the more punk-ish album ‘Thank You, Happy Birthday, before hitting their musical stride with the release of ‘Melophobia’ which earned a Grammy Award nomination in 2015for Best Alternative Album. The album delivered two Number One singles on the Alternative charts and elevated the brand to new heights.

The band’s current album ‘Tell me I’m Pretty’ pushes the advances they made with ‘Melophobia’ and draws on the sounds that originally inspired them to make music. It showcases what the guys from Kentucky can do with their own distinct musical identity as they experiment with influences across the spectrum, from classic rock, funk and blues to garage.  If they are exciting and full of surprises in the recording studio, they are incredible live and their exhilarating stage performances are already the stuff of rock legend.

In Belfast they’ll add diversity to a phenomenal bill headlined by Red Hot Chili Peppers joined by special guests, Fall Out Boy.

Looking forward to what promises to be an amazing celebration of never-to-be-forgotten music, Brian Beattie, Marketing Director for Tennent’s NI, said: “How do you follow the announcement that Chilis and Fall Out Boy will play Tennent’s Vital 2016? Only something amazing will work – and that’s what we have with Cage the Elephant. We and our partners at MCD are thrilled to be adding them to our August line up, giving audiences here their first chance to see this much talked-about US band in action.  Their huge on-stage presence will add still more excitement to the day.”
