Belfast’s biggest celebration of arts, culture and creativity will take place this Friday night as the city’s artistic community throws open its doors for the 6th annual Culture Night.
This year’s fabulous free feast of arts and entertainment includes a diverse array of exhibitions, performances and events for the whole family, including comedy, theatre, music, circus, dance, literature and visual arts.
With events stretching out in streets and venues around Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter and beyond, this year’s Culture Night boasts over 200 events for what’s set to be the city’s biggest artistic extravaganza yet. Plus, for the first time ever, the celebration is expanding, as the new CNX programme will bookend Culture Night to provide additional showcasing opportunities for the Belfast arts scene.
Last year over 42,000 people turned out to see Belfast transformed for Culture Night. Roisin McDonough, Chief Executive of the Arts Council, commented: “Culture Night is the night when our artists and performers give their time for free to showcase a little bit of what they do all year around. But it simply wouldn’t be possible without public funding from the Arts Council, which supports the costs and logistics of organising a free public event of this scale.
The Arts Council is proud to have invested in Culture Night since its inception, helping to provide valuable opportunities for participation and engagement to bring great art within the reach of everyone.”
With so much to see and do this Friday night, Culture Night highlights are set to include fast rising local music star UNKNWN in the Cathedral, live bespoke CNB broadcasting from Imprint Radio andThe Hidden Courtyard, where the Belfast Circus School will lead intrepid explorers into the largest hidden courtyard in Cathedral Quarter for a host of circus and music performances.
Culture Night revelers can expect to experience some glorious mayhem from Doctor Geist and Professor Stein, who will be on the lookout across The Cathedral Quarter for deadly man-eating plants disguised as humans.
Amidst the hundreds of surprises around every corner, and in every space and place in the city, there’s also the return of Hit The North, with their stunning street art, as well as the annual CNB parade lead by the Beat Initiative.
Culture Night takes place on Friday 19 September from 4pm – late, across the city centre and beyond.
