The Belfast Giants delivered a statement win in front of a sellout crowd at The SSE Arena, Belfast, defeating the Cardiff Devils 3–1 in a thrilling Elite Ice Hockey League clash on Wednesday night.
🔥 FIRST PERIOD
The energy inside The SSE Arena was electric from the first drop of the puck. The Giants pressed early with chances from Ben Lake and Karl Boudrias, forcing Cardiff netminder Ben Bowns into quick action.
Against the run of play, the Devils grabbed the opener when Kristoff Kontos’ pass deflected off Garrett McFadden and into his own net (0–1). Undeterred, Adam Keefe’s Giants ramped up the pressure, with Whistle pulling off a stunning double save to deny Kohen Olischefski and keep Belfast within striking distance heading into the break.

⚡ SECOND PERIOD
The Giants came out firing after intermission. Ryan Smith, Nicolas Guay, and Bo Hanson all tested Bowns as Belfast controlled the tempo.
The breakthrough finally came when Mike Lee fired from the blue line, and Jake Gaudet expertly tipped the puck into the top corner to level the game (1–1). The SSE Arena erupted as the Giants roared back into contention before a tense, physical second period drew to a close.

💥 THIRD PERIOD
With the game finely poised, Jordan Kawaguchi delivered the moment of magic the home fans were waiting for — wrapping the puck around the back of the net to beat Bowns and give the Giants their first lead of the night (2–1).
Cardiff fought to equalise, but Jackson Whistle stood tall between the pipes, supported by a rock-solid defensive unit. In the dying seconds, David Goodwin sealed the victory with a precision empty-netter (3–1), sending the Belfast crowd into celebration.
