The BBC has officially confirmed a brand-new presenting line-up for the next era of Strictly Come Dancing following the departure of long-time hosts Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly.

Taking centre stage for the 2026 series will be Emma Willis, comedian Josh Widdicombe, and fan-favourite professional dancer Johannes Radebe.

Emma Willis is set to step into the lead presenter role previously held by Tess Daly, while Josh Widdicombe will take over the famous backstage “Clauditorium” position made iconic by Claudia Winkleman. Johannes Radebe will reportedly move into a brand-new roaming presenter role, bringing viewers closer to contestants and behind-the-scenes moments throughout the live shows.

The announcement marks one of the biggest shake-ups in the history of the BBC ballroom favourite.

A New Chapter for Strictly

The broadcaster’s decision comes after months of speculation surrounding the future of the show following Claudia and Tess confirming their departures earlier this year.

Behind the scenes, BBC executives are believed to have carried out extensive screen tests and chemistry auditions with several high-profile names before deciding on the final trio. Reports suggest a number of familiar TV faces were considered during the process as producers searched for presenters capable of guiding the programme into a new era.

The latest changes also arrive after a difficult period for the show, which has faced a series of controversies in recent years involving professional dancers and celebrity contestants. Despite the headlines, Strictly has remained one of the BBC’s most successful entertainment programmes and continues to attract huge viewing figures every autumn.

Why The BBC Chose Emma, Josh and Johannes

According to BBC insiders, the new team offers a blend of warmth, humour and modern appeal.

Emma Willis is widely regarded as one of Britain’s most experienced live television presenters, having fronted major entertainment formats including Big Brother and The Voice UK. Her calm interviewing style and ability to connect with contestants reportedly made her an obvious choice for the lead role.

Josh Widdicombe’s quick wit and self-deprecating humour are expected to bring a fresh energy to the backstage segments, while Johannes Radebe’s popularity with younger viewers and strong social media following played a significant part in his appointment.

The BBC also sees Johannes as an important bridge between the traditional television audience and newer digital audiences discovering Strictly through viral clips online.

Returning Judges and Professional Dancers

The 2026 series of Strictly Come Dancing is expected to return to screens in September, with judges Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke all returning to the judging panel.

A large number of familiar professional dancers are also set to return, including Amy Dowden, Dianne Buswell, Kai Widdrington, Katya Jones, Nikita Kuzmin and reigning champion Carlos Gu.

What The BBC Has Said

BBC Chief Content Officer Kate Phillips described the chemistry between the new hosts as “undeniable”, saying the broadcaster is excited for viewers to finally see the trio together on screen.

Strictly executive producer Sarah James added that the combination of Emma, Josh and Johannes felt “unexpected but magical” from the moment they appeared together during auditions.

Emma Willis also shared her excitement about joining the iconic entertainment show, admitting she has been a long-time fan of Strictly and calling the opportunity “hard to comprehend”.

She paid tribute to Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, describing them as the “beating heart” of the programme for many years.

Can The New Era Work?

The big question now is whether the new-look presenting team can win over loyal Strictly fans when the show returns later this year.

Replacing two of British television’s most recognisable hosts is no easy task, but the BBC will hope the refreshed line-up brings renewed excitement to the ballroom while helping the focus return firmly to the dancing.

One thing is certain — all eyes will be on the Strictly ballroom when the glitter, sequins and score paddles return this autumn.
