Runners of all abilities are being encouraged to enter this year’s Bangor 10K, in association with George Best Belfast City Airport, taking place on September 29th 2018.

The Bangor 10K has been awarded Championship status by Athletics NI for the first time following last year’s record-breaking race which saw 1,200 runners take part.

With a total prize fund of nearly £3,500, the race has previously attracted international athletes and Olympians such as Paul Pollock and National Marathon Champion, Laura Graham.

Tony Wall of the North Down Athletic Club, commented:

“Last year’s event was record-breaking, and our Championship status will ensure this year’s race is even better.

“As the route is fairly flat, it is suitable for runners of with a range of abilities. Places are filling up fast so we would encourage those interested to register as soon as possible.

“It’s all for a good cause as we will be donating a percentage of the proceeds to Open House Festival, a charity close to home which is dedicated to saving the old Bangor Courthouse and renovating it into a community facility and festival base.

“It is tremendous to have Belfast City Airport on board as the headline sponsor for another year and some of the team will even be supporting us by taking part!”

Participants can register online until the 23rd September 2018 or until the 1,000 places have gone.  If available, late/paper entries will be accepted until the morning of the race, which begins at 11am. Those who register online will get a personalised bib and pay £17/affiliated and £19/unaffiliated.

Michelle Hatfield, Director of Corporate Services at Belfast City Airport, added:

“Belfast City Airport is committed to making a positive impact on the community and it is wonderful to once again partner with North Down Athletic Club for the Bangor 10k. There is always a fantastic atmosphere with big crowds coming out to cheer on the participants.

“We are dedicated to giving back to the community and supporting local clubs is just one of the ways in which we do this. Through our Community Fund, we have helped over 150 organisations based in Greater Belfast totalling over £350,000. We encourage our staff to volunteer and get involved when they can, enriching the area for the future.

“On behalf of the airport, I would like to wish the best of luck to all those participating.”
