Heartbeat security technology is the new fingerprint
- Every individual’s heartbeat has a completely unique electrical wave (ECG)
- Belfast firm, B-Secur, has developed technology to use ECG as the next generation of security authentication, with applications in everything from banking to security passes and even tracking children or military personnel in the field.
A Belfast-based biometrics company has secured two major coups within the past week which will set it among the world’s coolest technology breakthroughs.
B-Secur, whose biometric technology uses an individual’s heart beat (ECG) for security authentication, has been named as one of Gartner’s global Cool Vendors for 2016, in the same week as being accepted on to the London Stock Exchange’s (LSEG) ELITE Programme.
B-Secur has been hand-picked by Gartner, the world’s leading information technology research and advisory company. In its latest report, B-Secur was highlighted alongside only three other disruptive technologies which it considers as “Cool Vendors” – the ones to watch – in terms of interesting innovation in human-machine interface. Gartner’s highly influential research is regarded as the go-to source of analysis and advice for users and vendors of technology worldwide.
Gartner stated that “B-Secur’s technology is cool because it leverages something that everyone possesses (a unique heartbeat wave pattern) to strengthen existing mechanisms for securing and accessing logical and physical systems such as banking payment cards to airport employee access control, from monitoring armed forces in the field, to children in the playground.”
In its second major boost of the week, B-Secur is one of only 16 UK firms to join this year’s London Stock Exchange ELITE Programme. The Programme supports high-growth private companies, fostering innovation in areas including technology, healthcare and financial services. One of its main benefits is access to its advisory support and leading capital markets network.
Xavier Rolet, CEO, London Stock Exchange Group said, “To truly unleash the potential of high growth firms, they need access to finance and financial knowledge, which LSEG is committed to delivering through ELITE, giving the brightest and fastest growing British businesses the opportunity to expand, innovate and create new jobs.”
Alan Foreman, B-Secur CEO said “We are thrilled to be included in both of these highly prestigious programmes, both of which serve as recognition of the emergence of ECG biometrics as an important biometric modality of the future.”
