The Stena Line Belfast Giants can confirm that Adam Keefe will return for a fifth year in-a-row for the 2015/16 Elite League season, the second in a two-year deal with the organisation.
Keefe, who collected the Fans Favourite Award as well as the Forward of the Year Award at the 2015 Giants Awards Night, will Captain the team for a fourth consecutive season when the ice-hockey season returns in September.
The 30 year old from Brampton, Ontario in Canada, joined the Giants in 2011 and since then he has grown into one of the most popular players in franchise history. Keefe has played in over 200 games for the organisation, scoring 50 goals and adding 64 assists – good for 114 total points in his Belfast career.
Keefe has won two Elite League Championships with the Giants, in 2012 as well as 2014, when he lifted the Monteith Bowl as Captain and the news that all Giants fans want to hear is that he will be pulling on a Giants jersey once again in the new season.
Steve Thornton, Head of Hockey Operations, spoke of the importance of his Captain’s return,
“Adam Keefe plays to win every game night. He is the fans favourite for a reason – he hits, scores, fights and most importantly, he wants to win more titles in Belfast.”
“As important as Adam is on the ice, his value off the ice is probably double. Not only does he visit and talk to schools and youth groups – he also throws himself into a number of other initiatives, coming to me a few times during the season wanting to help out some brilliant causes, including the ‘Bleed Teal For Tom’ campaign.
Keefe finished the 2014/15 season with 13 goals and 23 assists, good for 36 points in 60 games played – his highest points total with the team. The Giants Captain also racked up 149 penalty minutes, fifteenth overall in the Elite League.
“Every team in our league would love to have a player like Adam Keefe and I am very pleased to have him back for next season.”
