Last night I was swept away into a world of enchantment and laughter at the Grand Opera House in Belfast, where I witnessed their spectacular pantomime, ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.’ This production isn’t just a show; it’s an extravaganza that solidifies its place as Northern Ireland’s premier pantomime.
The moment Paddy Jenkins, portraying The Wicked Queen’s Henchman, stepped onto the stage, the audience was captivated. His performance was impeccable, setting the tone for an evening of top-tier entertainment. Then, there was Jolene O’Hara, whose portrayal of the Wicked Queen was a delightful blend of drama and charisma – she truly owned the stage.
But the show-stealer was Phil Walker’s Muddles, the son of Catchphrase legend Roy Walker. His comedic timing and hilarious antics had us in stitches throughout the night. And how can we talk about the Grand Opera House panto without mentioning May McFettridge? In her record-breaking 33rd season, playing May of the Mirror, she was the heart and soul of the pantomime. Sitting in the front rows? You’d be part of the show with May’s interactive and engaging style!
The show wasn’t just about laughs though. The clever script included some tongue-twisting lines, especially during the scene where the characters search for Muddles’ lost shirt. The skillful delivery of these lines was a testament to the cast’s talent.
However, the real stars of the night were the dance team, led by Britain’s Got Talent finalists Flawless. Their portrayal as The Queen’s Guards was truly mesmerizing. The precision and energy they brought to the stage were nothing short of extraordinary.
The production, led by Michael Harrison, was a feast for the senses. From the stunningly designed sets and dazzling costumes to the sensational songs and dance numbers, every aspect of the show was crafted to perfection. It was a delightful mix of comedy, fabulous effects, and classic pantomime charm.
If you find yourself in Belfast, do not miss the opportunity to experience this magical journey. ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ at the Grand Opera House is more than just a show; it’s a celebration of theatrical brilliance.
The pantomime runs until January 14, 2024. Tickets are available at Goh.co.uk. Prepare to be enchanted! ✨
