Enjoy a golden glow at  Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park and celebrate 50 years of the Belfast International Rose Garden during  this year’s annual Rose Week, Monday 21-Sunday 27 July.
The fun-filled free family event offers everything from children’s entertainment, live music, and dancing to competitions, rose displays and plant stalls and over 1,000,000 blooms to be enjoyed over the summer period.
To mark the 50th anniversary new attractions during Rose Week include water zorbing, boxercise, kite-making and on the final Sunday, 27 July the adventurous can zoom across Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park on a 40meter zip line.
Miss Northern Ireland, Rebekah Shirley, helped launch the celebrations at the Rose Garden although her feet stayed firmly planted on the ground.
Deputy Chairman of the Parks and Leisure Committee, Councillor Caoimhin MacGiolla Mhin, said: “Rose Week is extra special this year with the 50th anniversary of the world-acclaimed City of Belfast International Rose Gardens and the founding of the Rose Society of Northern Ireland.

“We are hoping to build on lasts year’s outstanding success and so have a number of special events planned for the week which is enjoyed by thousands of families each year. The great thing is whatever your age there is something to do and enjoy,” he added.
“Children love the entertainment provided, and parents and older people can enjoy dazzling displays, plant stalls, music, dancing and the knock out scent of the roses. We will also have a special exhibition of old photographs and memorabilia of Rose Week from years gone by.
“Thursday, 24 July will be judging day for the International Rose Trials – always an exciting and nervous time for the rose growers in competition. This year the judging panel will have members from as far away as New Zealand and the US as well as closer to home like the Netherlands and Norway, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland,” said the councillor.
The Lord Mayor, Councillor Nichola Mallon will unveil a plaque at the Rose Garden to mark the anniversary during Rose Week and the Rose Society of Northern Ireland is holding a special conference during the event.
