Football fans can mark their calendars — the Premier League will reveal its 2026/27 fixture list on Friday, 19 June at 10:00 BST.
That’s slightly later than usual, with the league opting for a 10am release instead of the traditional 9am slot.
Why is next season starting later?
The schedule for the upcoming campaign has been pushed back due to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States.
As a result:
- The season kicks off on Saturday, 22 August 2026, just over a month after the World Cup final
- The final round of matches will be played on Sunday, 30 May 2027
- The UEFA Champions League Final is set to take place six days later
What will the schedule look like?
The league has confirmed a slightly adjusted format for the season:
- 33 rounds of fixtures will take place across weekends
- The remaining five rounds will be scheduled midweek
- Efforts will be made to reduce clashes with European competitions wherever possible
There’s also a continued focus on player welfare during the festive period. Clubs have been assured that no two match rounds will be scheduled within a 60-hour window over Christmas and New Year.
A big change to international breaks
One of the most notable tweaks comes early in the season.
Instead of separate international breaks in September and October, the two will now be combined into a single extended pause. This means:
- A three-week break in the league calendar
- No matches between the weekend of 19/20 September and 10/11 October
The November international break will remain unchanged.
This new structure is expected to stay in place until at least the 2030/31 season, signalling a longer-term shift in how the football calendar is organised.
