Straight from his winning success on the inaugural Great Irish Bake Off, local man Stephen Chisholm is launching a Gingerbread House baking competition at Victoria Square to raise ‘dough’ for Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children.

The competition encourages baking enthusiasts across Northern Ireland to make a spectacular Gingerbread House and bring it along for judging at Northern Ireland’s leading shopping centre, on Saturday 14th December from 10.30am. The judges to impress include Stephen Chisholm, Stephen Jeffers from Belfast Cookery School and Victoria Square Marketing Manager and self-confessed gingerbread lover, Lauren Campbell.

Assuming his new role as judge rather than competitor, Stephen said: “Baking has become such a phenomenon since the success of the Great British Bake off and the more recently Great Irish Bake Off. It’s great to use that enthusiasm to raise lots of money for Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children, plus it’s a good excuse to eat lots of gingerbread!”

Competition entries should be registered via www.nicfc.com and the entry fee is £5. There will be four winners on the day; one overall winner, who will take home a £250 Victoria Square Gift Card, plus winners from each of the following categories who will take home a £100 voucher; Best Traditionally Decorated, Best Decorated and Shoppers’ Favourite.

The charity, which offers practical, financial and emotional support to children, teenagers and young adults with cancer and their families, is the annual chosen charity for Victoria Square. Speaking about the competition, Centre Manager Michelle Jackson, said: “We have been supporting the charity since April and this is a fantastic way for us to finish the year. We would encourage everyone with any baking ability to get involved, either by submitting your own creation or coming along on the day to see the final masterpieces and get some advice from the chef judges!”

A basic Gingerbread House recipe, courtesy of Stephen Chisholm can be found at www.nicfc.com along with the simple entry rules. Or if you want to focus your efforts on decorations rather than baking from scratch, Gingerbread House Kits are also allowed and can be bought at the NICFC Charity Gift Wrapping service found on the Upper Ground Floor at Victoria Square.

The Victoria Square charity Gift Wrap Booth can be found on Upper Ground Floor at Victoria Square and is open every day up until 24th December.
