With Home Improvement Month taking place between 1st and 30th April 2017, many Northern Ireland households are gearing up to tackle DIY jobs in their home during the Easter break.

It was recently revealed that 14.3% of people in Northern Ireland have experienced a DIY disaster which cost them an average of £235 to correct so it is important that people understand their limits!

To save any homeowners planning changes to their bathroom from adding to this statistic, leading bathroom company Bassetts has created a list of seven fool-proof hacks which can quickly transform your bathroom for little or no hassle.

  1. Tile around your tub

This will protect your walls by making them water-resistant and adding coloured tiles could transform your bathroom. With the right tiles, that nightmare bath could change from an embarrassing secret to a proud centrepiece in your bathroom.

  1. New lighting fixtures

Lighting is a key component in any space but particularly within the bathroom, which may have little natural light. Add some task lighting so you can shave or apply make-up with just the right amount of light. Warning: avoid adding a light above a mirror as this can cast shadows on your nose, eyes and chin and make you look older!

  1. Audio-Image mirrors

With their anti-mist technology, built-in speakers and modern design, audio-image mirrors are a slick must-have for the music lover.  Simply link up your tracks via Bluetooth and enjoy your own bathroom soundtrack and, with controls at the touch of a button, it’s the perfect accompaniment for a relaxing bath time or invigorating shower.

  1. Less clutter the better

It’s easy to get carried away with lots of little knick knacks you have accrued over the years. It’s important to not let your bathroom become too cluttered and so we would recommend limiting visible items. Also, a top tip for clutter is if you don’t use it lose it – we are all guilty of holding onto products that we don’t use or that don’t work anymore but it may improve the aesthetics of your bathroom to put these in the bin.

  1. Efficient storage

A great way to hide the likes of towels, toiletries and other clutter from view is to add efficient, sleek storage. Open shelving can make bathrooms seem smaller so we would recommend installing hidden drawers or a cabinet. This means you can hold on to your items but not at the expense of a cluttered bathroom.

  1. Seek professional help

With the number one DIY disaster in the UK being “One simple job led to another, more expensive job” it may be worthwhile letting a professional carry out the work if you’re not confident in your DIY skills.

  1. Visualise your dream bathroom

If you want help imagining your dream bathroom, Bassetts’ visualiser technology allows you to design your own bathroom and is the first of its kind in Northern Ireland. The interactive touchscreen technology allows you to visualise your own unique bathroom setting, with a wide range of tiles to choose from to create your perfect look.
