The Hoffs have been named the winner of the popular McCoy’s NI Pub Quiz 2014. The 6 member team walked away with a tasty £1000 cash prize and the coveted title of brainiest pub quiz team in Northern Ireland.

This year the province wide quiz, organised by leading crisp brand McCoy’s and presented by U105’s Johnny Hero visited 13 towns and cities across Northern Ireland.  The winners, who stormed through their local heat in The Plough, Hillsborough, had to outwit more than 80 teams overall to reach the long-awaited and highly contested final.

Comprising of a group of highly knowledgeable friends from Belfast, Hillsborough, Bangor, Omagh and Downpatrick, The Hoffs faced regional finalists at The Errigle Inn, Belfast to be crowned McCoy’s NI Pub Quiz Champions 2014. Known for their enthusiasm and expertise on famous quiz shows such as Who Wants to be a Millionaire, 15 to One and BBC4’s Only Connect, The Hoffs are seasoned professionals when it comes to quizzes.

The Hoffs team captain, Paul Mitchell, was delighted at their success.

“We are thrilled to be the first team to win the McCoy’s NI Pub Quiz not just once or twice but 3 times. This quiz is always enjoyable and memorable and the £1000 grand prize is a real bonus. We are looking forward to next year already!” said Paul.

Everyone who got through to the final walked away with a McCoy’s presentation box as a token and spot prizes were given away throughout the night including a pair of tickets to see Robbie Williams in concert won by the wild card Facebook team – The Real McCoys.

Ricky Watts, Business Development Manager (NI) for McCoy’s manufacturer KP Snacks congratulated the winning team.

“We have had lots of interest into this year’s McCoy’s NI Pub Quiz with everyone competing in style for the big prize and sought after title. Our finalists were made up of veteran McCoy’s NI Pub Quiz teams along with new competitors and even a social media team who all came together to make it a nail biting and exciting final.” said Ricky.

“This is the fifth year of the McCoy’s NI Pub Quiz and it has proven very successful. I’m already looking forward to next year and I’m sure our winners will be back to defend their title!” added Ricky.

As well as the pub quiz, KP ran their biggest ever promotional campaign where publicans and consumers across Northern Ireland and Great Britain could nominate and vote for their local pub to be recreated in Rio.  The winning pub will be opening its doors in the popular Brazilian city for the start of the World Cup in just a few days.  In addition, crisp eaters throughout the UK had the chance to ‘bag a seat’ at the McCoy’s Local in Rio with an exciting on-pack promotion.
