The Stena Line Belfast Giants skated off with a 7-1 victory at the Odyssey Arena on Saturday evening, punishing the visiting Dundee Stars. Giants man of the match Mark Garside netted two goals and an assist including the game winner securing Elite League and Challenge Cup points for the Giants.
Giants top scorer Ray Sawada netted his league leading 7th powerplay goal of the season to open the scoring at 8.52 of the first period and the Giants never looked back. Garside doubled the Giants advantage minutes later and David Phillips made it 3 before the end of the period with his first of the year.
An explosive start to the middle period seen Darryl Lloyd extend the Giants lead to 4 before Dundee forward Igor Gongalsky threw the puck on net to beat an unsighted Stephen Murphy opening the visitors account.
Mark Garside netted his second of the evening and Mike Kompon extended the scoreline to 6-1 before the end of the period.
Andrew Dickson got his first ice time of the season, replacing Stephen Murphy for the final period and turned away 7 shots in a penalty filled final period. The scoring was completed at 49.48 by Robby Sandrock unleashing a bullet shot that found the back of the net to make it 7-1.
