The 11th annual Blackboard Awards will return on Friday 3 February at the Europa Hotel to celebrate principals, teachers, and classroom assistants of distinction from all communities across Belfast.

The Blackboard Awards will celebrate the teaching staff from both primary and post-primary level who have worked tirelessly to light an educational fire among their pupils.

With over 150 nominations and a record year for entries, categories for special awards presentations on the evening will include Special Needs Education Champion, STEM Teacher of the Year, and the Cross-Community Ambassador Award.

This year’s Blackboard Awards is proudly sponsored by H&J Martin Asset Management Services, and event partners Cirdan, St Mary’s University College, Maritime Belfast, Lidl, FLYNN and Comhairle na Gaelscolaíochta.

40 outstanding educationalists will be honoured during the celebration, which is a thank you to all who contribute to the education of children in Belfast, ensuring that schools remain the backbone of Belfast.

Speaking ahead of the Blackboard Awards 2023, Editor of Belfast Media, Robin Livingstone, said:

“In these uncertain times, teachers are the rock on which our entire community stands. It’s a privilege to be able to shine a light on the inspiring educationalists who epitomise the very best of Belfast.”

Susan Donnan, Belfast Media Events and Marketing Coordinator, added:

“The 11th Annual Blackboard Awards are a celebration of excellence in education, recognising the achievements of the schools, teachers, and support staff who have gone above and beyond to make a positive impact in their communities”.

Kieron Millar, Managing Director at H&J Martin Ltd, said:

“H&J Martin Ltd are delighted to be the headline sponsor for the 11th Annual Blackboard Awards 2023. Teachers are the backbone to the employment market for businesses such as ours, so it’s a privilege to be participating in giving recognition to their hard work and endeavour which ultimately gives future employers confidence when embarking on recruitment at all levels.”

Northern Ireland Commissioner for Children and Young People, Koulla Yiasouma, concluded:

“There is no denying that these are difficult times for so many children, young people and families as they emerge from the pandemic and grapple with the cost-of-living increases”.

“It is to their teachers and education staff that children and young people turn to for sanctuary, for safety and for support in these difficult times”.

“This is why I am delighted to be participating in this year’s Blackboard Awards as it provides an opportunity to thank these extraordinary people for everything they do for our children and young people”.
