SMILEY : A new play by Gary Mitchell 4 June – 2nd July Lyric Theatre

A former professional footballer puts a five-a-side soccer team together to win a lucrative competition, but things go awry when ex-paramilitaries force the team to steal the money instead of relying on them to win it.

A witty comedy and Lyric Theatre new writing commission from the highly acclaimed Gary Mitchell, Smiley promises to be a high octane production directed by the award-winning Conall Morrison.

Praised by The Guardian as “one of the most talked about voices in European theatre’ Belfast born Gary Mitchell is the recipient of numerous awards including the Evening Standard award for Most Promising Playwright and the Irish Times Theatre Award for Best New Play.

Smiley receives its world premiere at the Lyric Theatre in June as part of the Lyric’s Vivid Faces season.
