In a first for Belfast, a collaborative space for learning, connection, and resource-sharing with a focus on creativity and sustainability opens this weekend (20-21 April) with an open house policy all weekend for curious creatives and visitors alike.

The brand new Show Some Love Green House, which is part-funded by Belfast City Council’s Belfast 2024 programme, will host an artist studio, and act as a sustainable fashion hub and creative shared space, with a programme of inclusive community workshops and events throughout the year.

Co-founders Becky Bellamy and Connor Kerr from Another World Belfast CIC have declared the space ‘open and ready to welcome all visitors throughout this weekend’.

Decorated for opening from the ground up by a team of volunteers and supporters, Green
House will be located at 171-175 Victoria Street, just minutes from St George’s Market and
Victoria Square.

Co-founder Connor Kerr said: “We are first and foremost a safe space, and welcome people
who are curious to connect and learn, exchange and create.
“We are known for building practical, inclusive, secular projects and events and our new Green House space will not only be a ‘house’ but a ‘home’ to bring our diverse community together and provide aid for people experiencing hardship. We’d love people to drop in to our ‘open house’ this weekend to find out more about what we do – and how they can become involved or benefit from one of our projects.”

Co-founder Becky Bellamy added: “We’re artists and activists with a mission to create
sustainable change for people and our planet. We are passionate about sustainability and so as the Show Some Love Green House continues to evolve, we’re hoping to bring together communities from across Belfast to join hands in weaving the fabric of a more sustainable, interconnected and mentally resilient city. Visitors and members can tap into the wealth of knowledge held by skilled volunteers from all walks of life, through textile workshops or simply to start creating something new from preloved resources.”

“We see our artists and creators breathing new life into discarded materials, particularly
expired and damaged clothing, but also in visual art. The team here embraces all fabrics, from household to commercial, ensuring sustainability is at the heart of creation – and creativity is at the heart of our community.”

“But we aren’t just about textiles, our core mission is to demonstrate that Another World is
possible, by addressing both the symptoms and causes of inequality through community,
creativity and collaboration – and in doing so, we can make happier humans! We’d love to
welcome visitors this weekend; and for those who can’t make it, we’d love to connect online via our website at https://www.anotherworldbelfast.com/green-house”

Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Ryan Murphy, said: “Belfast City Council is delighted to see the Green House project coming to fruition – one of 17 commissions brought forward by our talented arts sector as part of our Belfast 2024 programme, with additional support provided by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

“Both the venue and the programme that Another World have planned for it really embodies the spirit of Belfast 2024 – bringing people together through creativity. It also reflects many of the council’s own goals – to reduce waste, encourage a more sustainable lifestyle, breathe new life into disused spaces and show how our city centre can become a home for a wide and diverse range of new uses.”
