Heart kids from across Northern Ireland are calling on everyone to wear something red on Rock Red Friday, which takes place on February 9th; in support of local children’s charity, Children’s Heartbeat Trust.
The day will see workplaces, schools, colleges, playgroups transformed into a sea of red, all with the aim of raising awareness of congenital heart disease (CHD) – Northern Ireland’s most common birth defect – and much-needed funds to support the work of Children’s Heartbeat Trust who support local children and young people born with CHD and their families.
Speaking at the launch of the initiative, Lynn Cowan, Fundraiser at Children’s Heartbeat Trust said: “By wearing red this Friday, February 9th, you’ll be helping raise vital awareness of congenital heart disease and funds for our work with local heart children. Every year over 200 babies are born in Northern Ireland with congenital heart disease; many of which will undergo open heart surgery and need lifelong treatment, care and support.”
“We would love as many people as people to Rock Red this Friday and use the hashtag #RockRedFriday across their social media platforms. Anyone can take part and it’s never too late to sign up. All support no matter how big or small is greatly appreciated.”
Details of Rock Red Friday were launched by 11 year old Rianna Savage from Belfast and her dad Sam.
Children’s Heartbeat Trust is a local charity supporting children and young people with heart disease and their families. The charity works closely with Clark Clinic at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children to ensure that children with heart disease and their families receive the best care, treatment and support possible.
