Ireland’s international award-winning gin Shortcross is set to increase its global footprint, thanks to a new listing at The Loop at Dublin Airport, secured through the NI Connections network.

The landmark listing was achieved after Shortcross was introduced to the airport through Northern Irish Connections, a global network that is helping connect thousands of Northern Irish people and friends of NI that are living around the globe. Shortcross Gin will hit shelves in the The Loop stores in both Terminal One and Terminal Two at Dublin Airport this week.

Shortcross Gin is the first spirit to be launched by Rademon Estate Distillery – Northern Ireland’s first and only craft gin distillery. Founded in 2012 by husband and wife team Fiona and David Boyd-Armstrong, Rademon Estate Distillery is located at the couple’s historic family estate just outside Downpatrick, Co. Down.

NI Connections has members in more than 50 countries. The network hosted 30 events in 16 international cities in the past 12 months to engage with the Northern Irish diaspora. In Dublin last year, CEO Andrew Cowan introduced the Shortcross team to Paul Neeson, a Queen’s University graduate originally from Ballymena who is now Global Buying & Merchandising Director at Dublin Airport. He felt Shortcross and DAA’s travel retail brand, The Loop, were a good fit.

Andrew Cowan, said: “This is a great example of what NI Connections is all about, making connections that mutually benefit our members, helping them to widen their networks, make new contacts to collaborate with and ultimately to grow their businesses. We have a huge network of influential diaspora who are keen to identify business and cultural opportunities like this for our members, and for Northern Ireland.”

Shortcross Gin is now being exported to a number of countries including, France, Great Britain and Holland, with plans to expand its export distribution network in the coming year. The listing at Dublin Airport will be a significant boost to the brand’s ambitious plans to make its mark in the global gin market.

Founder and Head Distiller, David Boyd-Armstrong said:  “Over the last year, we have worked hard to establish and increase awareness of Shortcross Gin and the small batch philosophy that is at the heart of everything we do. This latest listing at The Loop at Dublin Airport is a major boost to our long-term growth strategy for Shortcross.

“We’re excited to work with NI Connections and Dublin Airport to bring Shortcross to thousands of new customers visiting The Loop at Dublin Airport. NI Connections has helped us to introduce Shortcross to many influential diaspora members around the globe and our Dublin Airport listing is evidence of the strength of its connections.”

Paul Neeson, Global Buying & Merchandising Director at Dublin Airport said: “I’d like to welcome Shortcross to The Loop at Dublin Airport and thank NI Connections for putting them on our radar. Shortcross is a premium product that will sit well alongside the other mainstream and craft spirits brands that make up our extensive award-winning duty free offering.

“Dublin Airport has seen a significant increase in business from Northern Ireland residents as well as a rise in the number of visitors arriving into Dublin who are visiting Northern Ireland. Some 65% of passengers who come by air to the island of Ireland pass through Dublin Airport and we have significantly expanded our route network in recent years to include more services to continental European, long-haul and UK provincial destinations.”
