Test yourself, and your washing machine, with the muddiest adventure in Ireland!

How is your New Year Resolution holding up? In 2016, McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes are providing an alternative to the 6am spin class or the two litres of kale and spinach juice you force yourself to drink each day.

The annual Mud Madness events at Foymore Lodge in Portadown, which celebrated ten years of mayhem in 2015, allow athletes of all fitness levels and abilities to put both feet forward and dive head first into the muddiest and maddest day of mud-soaked fun in the whole of Ireland.

It is time to finally take the labels off the new training gear and get active with a new goal of hitting a record time around the obstacle course of dips, hollows, ladders and tunnels! The Mud Madness course is a combination of natural and man-made obstacles, all of which will leave you feeling challenged, exhilarated and of course, muddy! Whether as a solo participant or part of a team, the McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes Mud Madness continues to prove itself as a must-do for any thrill-seeker’s calendar.

McVitie’s Jaffaman, the new face of the event, will be touring Northern Ireland in a major recruitment drive to encourage adventurous souls and those who need that extra dose of inspiration. Kicking off his tour in Co. Antrim on Saturday, 27th February at the legendary Giants Causeway, Jaffaman will scour the country with visits to the iconic sites of Down, Londonderry, Tyrone, Fermanagh and Armagh, before finishing up in Belfast with only a fortnight to go before the big event.

Tim McAuley from McVitie’s says

“Marie Curie provide amazing care and support that is needed and cherished by so many families across Northern Ireland, and we are privileged that we can help raise vital funds for this work to continue. We are delighted that our Mud Madness events continue to be some of the most popular adventure races in the whole of Ireland by providing a fun experience for the brave, and slightly mad, to enjoy.”

McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes Mud Madness will see four events take place over two days in mid-April when mud-lovers of all ages are invited to take part in the charity challenge.

After a hugely successful inaugural event last September, the second Mini Mud Madness event for six to sixteen year olds will take place on Saturday, April 16thwith those aged six to 11 years old leaving the start line at 5pm while a second event for 12-16 year olds will take place at 5.45pm.

For participants over 16, the two main events happen on Sunday 17th April at 11am and 2pm, where the course has been designed to test your mud-wading ability, be it running, walking or diving through the varying obstacles across the mud-soaked course.

Organiser Johnny Davis looks forward to this year’s competition;

“Each year, our events continue to prove their popularity with all 1,000 spots being snapped up in record time, and since September, it has been fantastic to include the younger generation with the addition of two Mini Mud Madness events. Now all the family can take part and earn some great bragging points to take home with them. The two-day event will be a great weekend of activity for all to enjoy, while raising funds for the life-changing work of our charity partner of ten years, Marie Curie.”

Anne Hannan from Marie Curie added;

“Over the last decade, the Mud Madness events have helped raise almost £150,000 for Marie Curie.  The money supports the charity in providing care for people living with any terminal illness and to deliver its nursing service across Northern Ireland, both in the community and at the Belfast Hospice.”

“Everyone at Marie Curie is excited to be involved in this year’s Mud Madness event.  So, if you fancy an event that offers a lot of thrills and spills then this one is for you.  We look forward to seeing you all at Foymore Lodge in April.”

Entries for all Mud madness & Mini Mud madness events will be limited with all events expected to be a sell-out once again. To register for the McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes Mud Madness on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th of April 2016 visit www.mud-madness.com
