Leading social care charity Praxis Care has designated February 29 “Leap Into Action Day” and is inviting firms and individuals to share their time and talents to help people on this extra day.
The initiative encourages everyone to devote the extra day, or a date around it, to volunteer at Praxis Care’s locations across Northern Ireland, Ireland, the Isle of Man and England.
Praxis Care’s Director of Care, Greer Wilson, says Leap Into Action Day is a call to action for those with a skill to share, a willingness to roll up their sleeves to refresh indoor or outdoor spaces or the creativity to organise fundraising activities.
“Whether teaching a skill, sprucing up a facility or running a fundraiser, this day is an opportunity to contribute to the wellbeing of the community,” says Mr Wilson. “Hundreds of volunteers in the past have expressed their sense of joy and fulfilment after having spent time with the people we care for.”
Praxis Care runs volunteer schemes across its network and relies on individuals, firms and organisations who dedicate some of their time to supporting the charity.
Volunteer Lynda Bell says working with her colleagues from Danske Bank and the tenants at the Praxis Care Castle Lane location site in Lurgan was unforgettable.
“We volunteered to paint the hall, games room and pergola at Castle Lane. A few of the tenants were eager to help and the banter and interaction were fantastic. Some great stories kept us all in fine spirits! We look forward to returning here in the future,” says Lynda.
