Kerry Kirkpatrick, Communication and Training Executive at Outdoor Recreation NI, commenting as temperatures are predicted to rise across NI, said: “With temperatures set to increase across Northern Ireland over the weekend, we are first and foremost encouraging people to get outdoors and enjoy the good weather while it lasts! It is important to do this responsibly, however, by keeping on the Right Side of Outside. This means being prepared, by checking the weather and bringing the right equipment and clothing for wherever you’re going.
“If you’re heading into the water, remember to bring a life jacket or swim float. You should also bring plenty of fluids, appropriate clothing and sunscreen. It is also particularly important in this heat to ensure that you avoid starting open fires. The impact of the Canadian wildfires at the minute is an important reminder of the serious consequences of these.
“It’s tempting to take a portable BBQ to an outdoor space in the warm weather but please ensure that you only use these in designated areas and check that they are properly extinguished after use, as this will help to prevent the risk of wildfires.”
