The Lorne Estate residential and activity centre in Holywood, County Down has been awarded a four-star rating under Tourism NI’s Quality Assurance Grading Scheme.

The 20-acre estate, owned and operated by Girlguiding Ulster, is based around a two-storey Scottish Baronial style house dating from 1875.

Graded under Tourism NI’s group accommodation category, the four-star award indicates that the facility is of a ‘very good’ standard.

The estate boasts a wide range of buildings and excellent indoor and outdoor facilities that welcome all types of youth organisations as well as church, school and corporate groups.

Lorne Estate also offers conference facilities, meeting rooms and extensive camping facilities, as well as a range of instructor-led activities including archery, abseiling, gorge walking and a bungee trampoline.

Caroline Adams, Tourism NI’s Quality and Standards Manager said: “Consumers like to see star ratings when making their choice of where to stay in Northern Ireland because they provide information on the standard to expect.”

“Tourism NI is delighted to see four stars being awarded to the high quality group accommodation available to group visitors to County Down. With excellent shared and ensuite indoor facilities for up to 80 guests, a full professional catering service, and full Adventuremark approval, Lorne Estate is fully deserving of its this rating, and Girlguiding Ulster must be congratulated on the achievement.

“As more accommodation providers and tourism businesses become accredited, quality and standards improve generally and the choice becomes clearer for consumers. I would encourage other accommodation providers to avail of the scheme.”
