This Saturday 22 June 2019, Festival of Flight, Newcastle will see a packed programme of show-stopping aerobatics, including an exclusive display from the RAF Red Arrows – their only date in all of Ireland this summer.
Festival of Flight is one of Ireland’s largest FREE airshows and will welcome over 100,000 spectators to the County Down seaside town for a packed programme of world-famous aviation attractions and family fun.
The event is sponsored by Collins Aerospace Kilkeel, which employs a workforce of over 1,000 people manufacturing seating for almost all the world’s major commercial airlines.
Chairperson of Newry, Mourne & Down District Council, Councillor Charlie Casey said: “We are expecting over 100,000 spectators from across the island of Ireland for the Festival’s strongest line-up for years. We have a packed programme of aerial displays and a whole host of family-friendly entertainment on the ground.”
Festival of Flight, organised by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, with support from Tourism Northern Ireland, includes a packed programme of thrilling, world-class aerobatic displays from the Muscle Pitts Biplane, Team Raven, The Global Stars, AeroSuperBatics Wing Walkers and The Blades, all of whom are former RAF Red Arrows pilots.
The stunning backdrop of the Mournes, the expansive beach and open skyline make this the ideal location for a spectacular airshow.
In this 75th anniversary year of the Battle of Britain, The RAF BBMF Douglas Dakota and The RAF Tucano T1 (famously made by Shorts in Belfast) will wow spectators with an array of vintage flying and low-level fly-bys, while helicopter Search & Rescue from the Irish Coastguard will impress crowds with their over-sea skills, along with the Irish AirCorps AW139 Helicopter and CASA Maritime aircraft teams.
Family fun right across Newcastle will include a Food and Entertainment Village with a Market in Castle Park, live music, entertainment and children’s arts and craft workshops.
The fun starts in Newcastle at 10am on Saturday 22 June, with flying displays from 1.30-5.40pm. PSNI and DOE Roads Service advise travelling early and using AA signposted parking. Translink are providing additional shuttlebus services from Castlewellan Road Park and Ride.
