FASA is proud to announce a unique and exciting fundraising event to raise vital funds for a new Crisis Response initiative headed up by the charity.
On 27 March 2014, a concert will take place at the Empire Music Hall, Belfast with tickets selling at £12 each; available at Ticketmaster.co.uk. The Irish/American band “Friends of Emmet” will be coming to Belfast to not only launch their debut Album ‘State of Mind’ but will be lead the way to raising vital funds for FASA’s new project “The Nightingale”, an out of hours service for people in crisis and at risk of suicide or self-harm.
Friends of Emmet (F.O.E) have been writing, recording & touring for the past three years. Originally from Dublin, Ireland they are now based in Los Angeles. Several tracks from the album have already been licensed to major TV dramas in the UK and the USA such as Hollyoaks and Eastenders for Ch.4 and BBC in the UK and Jersey Shore, The Pauly D Project, The Real World & Friendzone for MTV in the US
The lead track on the album ‘Coming Apart’ is a tribute to Kevin Hines (Author of the book Cracked Not Broken) who attempted to take his own life at the young age of 19 yet survived jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge. Kevin Hines is one of the few to ever survive the suicide plunge from 245 feet above the water. Upon hearing about Kevin’s story the band found themselves inspired by the turn of events and wrote “Coming Apart”. Hines also features in the video for the song.
This is how they came to support the work of FASA. Kevin Hines will be travelling with the band and as part of their time in Belfast in March, will officially open The Nightingale for FASA.
Keith Geraghty from Friends of Emmet comments, “Friends of Emmet are honored to be supporting FASA & feel blessed to be associated with such a wonderful organisation. We are looking forward to playing at the Empire and raising funds and awareness of this vital new service for people with suicide and self-harm thoughts”
FASA are continuously dedicated to providing interventions to respond to the needs of the people and the community, ensuring identified gaps in services are addressed for those in emotional distress. Over the past 5 years one of the key needs our service users, families and other agencies have identified is a Place of Safety for those who are in crisis through the night and need an out of hours service.
The aim of the Nightingale will be to address the present gap in service provision and will deliver the service 9pm to 9am , with supporting day services at an accessible location initially piloting in Belfast. The facility will provide a resource for people at risk of suicide and self-harm with a place to go and receive help and support in their crucial hour of need. The tranquil venue will offer access to a quiet, comfortable space, hosting the person in distress to rest while also accommodating supportive family or friends.
FASA would like to invite everyone to support this fundraising event and help to make a real difference to people in our own communities living in crisis. For more information please contact Lorna Watson on 028 9080 3040 or email lorna@fasaonline.org
Tickets for the event can be purchased through Ticketmaster for £12 each www.ticketmaster.co.uk
